A middle aged man, Simon (not his real name). He had been battling Leukaemia many years and now he had also lost his eye due to the disease. He came into the ward for treatment. He waited until I came on duty and asked to talk. He told me he couldn’t fight anymore and wished to stop the treatment. At this point his family came in and he said, “can you tell my family what I just told you.” I told his family who were upset but understood. I told the doctors and they documented this. Simon died peacefully four hours later, surrounded by loved ones.
